Accept Assignment

Question:  Where do we change Box 27 on the HCFA form for Accept Assignment?

Answer:  1.  For an individual patient: there is an accept assignment box on the patient detail screen. This will be carried through to the transaction screen.
2.   As a global s the default for the insurance carrier, go to Lists, Staff Doctor.   On the bottom of the screen, you can choose to accept assignment by insurance carrier.

Problem:  I chose "N" for Accept Assignment on the patient, but the claim still shows "Y".

Answer:  If in Staff Doctors, the doctor has the associated Accept Assignment set for the carrier in question, this overrides anything on the Patient. If the doctor does NOT have Accept Assignment set, the patient overrides. During billiing, ClinicPro will ask if you would like to Accept Assignment for ALL patients. Click No.

By default, Clinic Pro checks the Staff Doctor Detail screen and automatically applies a check mark, if you have previously Accepted Assignment with the insurance company. It is possible to Accept Assignment of benefits (AA) but not have the Assignment of Benefits Signature (AS) from the patient. In this circumstance, the patient would receive the benefits from the insurance

If the patient has their Accept Assignment set to No when adding a new transaction and they switch to Yes for that transaction, ClinicPro will ask if the doctor will be accepting assignment for all claims on this carrier.

Problem:  An insurance company is rejecting a claim for not having a correct assignment of benefits indicator. Does this pertain to Accept Assignment?

Solution:  First check the Doctors information, make sure the insurance carrier is selected under the accept assignment portion of the Staff Doctor Detail. You can check this information by going to List/Staff Doctor/   Select the Doctor and then click on the Staff Doctor Detail Tab. Second, make sure on the Patient Detail Tab the boxes are selected to Assignment Signature and Release Signature. Finally, under the transaction tab below the 'C' button there is a small drop down box next to the letters AA (accept assignment), this must say Yes (Y).

Question:  If you select "Y - Yes" for Accept Assignment does that mean that you have to accept whatever the insurance pays and not bill the patient the difference even if you're not a Participating/In-Network Provider?

Answer:  Correct.  Even if you're Out-of-Network / Non-Participating, if you "Accept Assignment" then you are bound by what the Insurance pays.  You are not allowed to bill the patient the difference.
